The Musée de Grenoble Presents Photographs by Charlotte Perriand

As part of Grenoble Art Up, the Musée de Grenoble is presenting a selection of photographs from an exceptional donation of 59 prints made by the Charlotte Perriand Archives. Now part of the museum’s permanent collection, this collection sheds light on a lesser-known aspect of the work of this major figure in 20th-century design and architecture. This presentation echoes the exhibition dedicated to Charlotte Perriand, *La montagne re-créative*, held at the Musée de Grenoble from April 4 to August 23, 2026, which revealed the richness of this photographic collection to the public. Taken between 1927 and 1938, these images bear witness to her unique perspective on mountain landscapes, whose forms, lines, and rhythms fueled her artistic and architectural thinking.

An architect, designer, and photographer, Charlotte Perriand (1903–1999) left a profound mark on modernity through her humanistic approach to housing and her constant focus on the dialogue between people, architecture, and nature. The works on display at Art Up thus offer a unique glimpse into this precious gift and invite visitors to discover the sensitive and visionary world of a creator whose influence remains essential to this day.

Founded in 1987, the Friends of the Grenoble Museum association now has 900 members and will celebrate 40 years of dedication in 2027. It supports the museum’s cultural policy and contributes to the diversity of its offerings by organizing lectures, tours, special events, and cultural trips.

The Friends of the Museum offer members the opportunity to attend art history lectures in the auditorium. Thanks to the Museum’s rich collection, topics ranging from antiquity to contemporary art are covered by qualified, knowledgeable, and experienced lecturers.

The Friends of the Museum offer themed tours of the permanent collections or temporary exhibitions led by museum docents, as well as tours in the Grenoble metropolitan area: galleries, art centers, local artists’ studios, and more.

The association’s program also includes cultural days and trips preceded by lectures and led by professionals specializing in art and heritage.

Raising awareness of art among a very broad audience and promoting cultural heritage helps enhance the museum’s reputation and, more broadly, that of Grenoble.

Thanks to the participation of its many members, this contribution also takes the form of art acquisitions.

With support from the FFSAM (French Federation of Friends of Museums), the WFFM (World Federation of Friends of Museums), and the Ministry of Culture, the association has established a “Young Friends” section (ages 18–35),

This harmonious collaboration is the result of the seamless integration of our Friends of the Museum association into the very heart of the Grenoble Museum.

The Chambéry Museum of Fine Arts is renowned for its collections of Italian paintings and mountain landscapes, including several masterpieces from the Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo periods. In 2026, the museum will spotlight Albania with two temporary exhibitions: “Icons of Albania: Treasures from the Museum of Medieval Art in Korça” and “The Eye of Gjon Mili (1904–1984): A Photographer from Korça to New York.” Since 2023, Wandrille Potez has been photographing Albanian places of worship abandoned during the period of state atheism under Enver Hoxha’s communist regime. Monastic cells, cave churches, monasteries, and domes covered with religious frescoes come back to life through his sensitive lens. Through November 15, 2026, her photographs engage in a dialogue within the museum with Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons from the 14th to the 20th centuries from the Korça Museum. Beginning December 18, 2026, the next exhibition will be part of the bicentennial celebration of photography. A native of Korça, Gjon Mili emigrated to the United States in 1923, where he became an electrical engineer at the prestigious MIT. He developed techniques in chronophotography and light painting.

The art library is an ideal place to discover contemporary art and learn about the arts. It makes more than 600 original works available to everyone through loans, as well as through installations, exhibitions, and educational programs. It serves individuals as well as organizations, schools, businesses, and local governments.

Founded in 1986, its collection centers on prints and photographs representative of the movements and artists who have shaped the history of art over the past fifty years. Enriched each year with new acquisitions, it showcases the diversity of contemporary art and helps support artists.

In 2026, the art library will celebrate its 40th anniversary and honor the ties it has forged since its founding with the local community, its residents, and the many cultural, social, and educational institutions in Chambéry. In November and December, its works will be displayed at the Museum of Fine Arts and at various locations throughout the city, inviting contemporary art to step outside its walls and engage with the local community.

At the same time, the art library is continuing to expand beyond Chambéry with an ambitious mobile branch project, which will launch in the Bauges Mountains starting at the end of the year. This is a new way to further its mission: making contemporary art accessible to as many people as possible and fostering a direct, everyday connection with the artworks.

For Grenoble Art Up!, in celebration of the bicentennial of photography, the art library is showcasing the richness of its collection in this field with artists such as Julien Guinand, Christiane Sintes, Bernard Plossu, and Michel Van den Eeckhoudt.

Spacejunk is a network of two art centers located in Grenoble and Lyon. Founded in 2003 by Jérôme Catz to showcase the work of artists from the street art, lowbrow, and pop surrealism scenes, the curator is also the author of several books on street art. In 2015, he conceived and launched the Street Art Fest Grenoble-Alpes, a festival that quickly became the largest European event dedicated to this art form.

Over the course of twelve editions, no fewer than 500 murals have been created in the Grenoble metropolitan area.

Each edition of the festival features both international and local artists, offering visitors the chance to witness these visual artists at work during five weeks of mural creation. A major exhibition showcasing the studio work of the invited artists also takes place at the former Musée de Grenoble, which displays works on canvas or paper by most of the artists participating in the current edition across 1,000 m².
Among the festival’s most acclaimed artists are Shepard Fairey, How & Nosm, Seth, Anthony Lister, Simon Berger, Li-Hill, Goin, Satr, Veks Van Hillik, WD, Smug, Belin, Fintan Magee, Lonac, Maye, Deih, Vesod, Augustine Kofie, Case Maclaim, Sebas Velasco, Erre, Guido Van Helten, Hera of Herakut, and many others… The best thing to do is still to come see their work in person in this open-air museum that the city of Grenoble has become over the past twelve years of the Street Art Fest!
