The Saint-Ange Residency is a comprehensive program dedicated to supporting, mentoring, and promoting emerging contemporary artists. This private philanthropic initiative provides sustained regional support for both emerging and nationally recognized artists. Founded by collector and philanthropist Colette Tornier under the auspices of an endowment fund, the Saint-Ange Residency is located in Seyssins, near Grenoble, France.
Each year, two artists selected by a review committee are invited to reside for three to four months in a building commissioned from renowned French architect Odile Decq—a striking black monolith overlooking the valley and facing the Vercors mountain range. During their residency, artists receive a stipend that enables them to focus on their practice and produce new works. These works are subsequently exhibited at a partner institution in Grenoble and accompanied by a monographic catalogue.
In May 2018, Colette Tornier received the “One Patron, One Project” Award for Visual Arts, presented by French Minister of Culture Françoise Nyssen, in recognition of this initiative.
The residency reflects Colette Tornier’s vision and commitment, transforming her estate into a major center for contemporary French artistic creation over the past decade.
In 2026, on the occasion of the contemporary art fair Grenoble Art Up!, a collective exhibition brings together all artists who have participated in the Saint-Ange Residency since 2015, paying tribute to Colette Tornier and celebrating ten years of artistic creation and support.
