Bernard Cadène

Born on 9 September 1942, Bernard Cadène is a French painter, sculptor and advertising creative of Aveyronnais origin. He grew up in Albi and Toulouse in a family closely connected to music. After twelve years of violin studies and learning the double bass, he entered the Toulouse School of Fine Arts in 1961.

In 1967, he obtained his drawing teacher’s diploma and received the Grand Prix of the Lefranc competition. At the beginning of 1995, he started to paint full-time..

Closely connected to music and jazz, his work evolved from blacks and greys in the 1970s towards a practice in which colour became central from 1995 onwards. He cites Picasso, El Greco, Bacon and Soulages among his artistic masters. His predominantly figurative, mixed-media work has been exhibited in France and internationally, in particular at Le Cube Vernet art gallery in Avignon, France.
