artist/ Lady K

France

Born in 1978, LADY K is a French visual artist and graffiti writer. Since she was a teenager, she has experimented with a range of media and techniques, from graffiti to surrealism. When she went to secondary school, the artist put her schooling on hold, preferring to devote herself to painting. After high school, she enrolled at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, before going on to study at Panthéon-Sorbonne University.

Lady K entered the very male-dominated world of writing, where she quickly made a name for herself thanks to her practice and her singular approach. She used several pseudonyms, eventually retaining Lady K in 1998. A mixture of risk-taking and modifications of reality, the artist’s work is in line with that of the interventionists, since her actions most often take place during the day in the urban environment.

From the outset, she has revisited the different graphic styles of writing, in particular interacting block lettering and wild style lettering with English calligraphy. Ready-made, body-art, performances and extensive lettering form her unique style. Now recognised as one of the best graffiti artists in France, she is respected by her peers and her work is exhibited in galleries not only in France but also in the United States, Russia and the Netherlands.
