artist/ Fragola de la Vega

Italie

Born in Sicily in 1980 and catapulted to France at the age of 14, Francesca studied applied art in the hills above Nice before moving to Paris to begin a career as an art director in a communications agency.

Drawing has always been the best way for her to express her dreams and her torments, to make fun of difficult situations. This talent remained hidden until her first exhibition in Paris in 2016. Since then, she has continued to express herself mainly in Indian ink, but also on cut-out wooden supports, on walls and in the street.

‘Flying fish, living… dead robots, female creatures, neither women nor girls, cats from the past. These and other mysterious beings populate the works of Francesca Sangiorgi. Born on an island, Sicily, Francesca carries within her all the power of the sea, a stormy sea that brings fragments of the past to the surface, a sea where improbable boats defy the waves, lose and find their way again. In her work, you can feel the wind in the hair of those who set sail. Black and white
white torn by a bright red, where dreams and reality, past and present, harshness and joie de vivre, childhood and adulthood, photography and drawing, dance in mysterious and fascinating harmony.
Francesca’s art has the power to touch the viewer’s soul. A
feeling of melancholy, but at the same time of rebirth
the viewer, who lets himself be carried away by the waves. Life seen through
eyes that have seen fragments of life, beautiful and not so beautiful
but who have retained the amazement of children. Francesca’s world
Francesca’s world mocks and ridicules difficulties, remaining true to herself
true to herself through good times and bad. Dreamlike reality and
urban reality blend into a perfect balance
in which the creatures, extrapolated from their natural context, are catapulted
extrapolated from their natural context, are catapulted into unfamiliar
to which they are forced to adapt’.
