“Faced with so many cans, I found myself thinking in paradoxical terms. I had a real distaste, even disgust, for the society of over-consumption that they represented, while at the same time finding this mix of colours very beautiful, without denying the fact that these brands and their advertising have had an impact on our culture.
Rather than donating the cans to the recycling bin, where they would become more cans in a never-ending vicious circle, I felt more enthusiastic about using them to tell stories about the world and the society that created them.
This desire not just to recycle but to recover and divert is perhaps the common thread running through my work.
More than a recycling practice, I’m part of an ethic of recovery and upcycling to be able to say other things.”
