Paul Jenkins, born July 12, 1923 in Kansas City, Missouri and died June 9, 2012 in New York City.

He was an American painter and writer of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, conveniently classified in the lyrical abstraction or abstract expressionism movements, whereas he is, according to Frank Anderson Trapp: “one of those artists who would be hard to describe in those terms, despite the reciprocity of influences between Europe and America during contemporary evolution.”

According to Jean Cassou, if he had to be labelled anything, he’d be better off as an informal artist.
