André Marfaing (1925-1987) was a French painter and engraver associated with lyrical abstraction and the School of Paris. Born in Toulouse, he initially studied law before dedicating himself entirely to painting in 1949. His work is characterized by a predominant use of black and white, exploring contrasts between shadow and light, emptiness and fullness. Marfaing exhibited in numerous galleries in France and abroad, and his works are included in prestigious public and private collections.
