Jean-Michel Basquiat was an American painter, born on December 22, 1960, in Brooklyn, and died on August 12, 1988, in NoHo (Manhattan).
He quickly became a popular avant-garde painter and a pioneer of the underground movement.
Basquiat was considered a gifted child early on—able to read and write by the age of four and fluent in three languages by the age of eight. By the time he was 28, Basquiat had already produced over 800 paintings and 1,500 drawings, but he died from an overdose, unable to overcome his addiction.
