Côte d'Ivoire

St Étienne Yéanzi was born in 1988 in Katiola, Côte d’Ivoire. A graduate in painting and photography from the Lycée d’Enseignement Artistique de Cocody and the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts d’Abidjan, from which he graduated top of his class in 2012, he pursues a personal style using plastic, which he melts.

Today, this Ivorian is making a name for himself on the international scene with his disturbing portraits, which play on the presence of the people depicted, who are generally anonymous, but whose image seems to fade as if it were disappearing at the very moment we are looking at them. It’s a way for the artist to define the contours of “a reflection on our identities in contemporary communities”, which he places at the heart of his approach to art.
