Alastair was born in 1962 near Johannesburg, South Africa, completing his education at King
\nEdward Vll school followed by two years\u2019 compulsory national service in the South African army.
\n Exposed to and inspired by marine life
\nduring annual vacations to the family
\ncottage on the Natal South Coast led
\nAlastair to take sculpture classes. This early
\nformal experience would influence how he
\nsaw and interpreted the detail and form of
\n\u2018interesting fish\u2019.
\n With an interest in motor racing influenced
\nby his father and an education in
\nbalance-engineering, Alastair arrived in
\nEurope with an ambition to work in the
\nmotor sport industry. This resulted in a
\ncareer of 22 years, 14 of which were in
\nFormula One, four as lead mechanic for
\nthe Benetton F1 Team and 10 as race team
\nchief mechanic for the BAR and Honda
\nGrand Prix Teams.
\n Drawing similarities between modern
\nmotorsport engineering and his love for
\nthe natural world, Alastair uses his acquired
\nengineering skills and experience to
\nshow his passion for sculpture through
\nhis signature medium of carbon fibre.
\nHis anatomically correct pieces are
\ndetailed from used F1 parts
\npurchased from the current
\nGrand Prix teams.
\n Alastair\u2019s work has been exhibited
\nworldwide and is being appreciated by a
\ngrowing number of collectors and investors.
\nNow in his sixteenth year as a full time artist,
\nAlastair is being recognised as the
\nforerunner in high-end engineered
\nsculpture and with his skilled team is
\nundertaking a variety of projects, private
\ncommissions and installations at his
\nbespoke studio, \u2018Studio 45\u2019, near
