C\u00e9sar Baldaccini, known simply as C\u00e9sar (1921\u20131998), was a French sculptor and a leading figure of the Nouveau R\u00e9alisme movement. He gained fame for his iconic compressions (crushed cars and metal objects), expansions made of polyurethane foam, and human imprints, all of which challenged traditional sculpture. In 1975, he designed the trophy for the C\u00e9sar Awards, France\u2019s national film prize.
