Hans Hartung (1904\u20131989) was a Franco-German painter and a major figure of post-war Lyrical Abstraction. His work, characterized by gestural energy, experimentation, and emotional intensity, explores the expressive power of line, color, and movement. Hartung employed a wide range of tools \u2014 brushes, spray guns, combs, even tree branches \u2014 to create dynamic and deeply personal compositions. A refugee in France during World War II, he became a French citizen in 1946.
